BAYVIEW ELEMENTARY

BAY AREA CHAPTER — San Pablo, CA

Big Picture

Bayview Elementary School is a public school serving preschool through 6th-grade students located in San Pablo, CA.  Bayview Elementary is identified as a school-wide Title 1 funded site serving around 380 students. Bayview focuses on educating the “whole child” by integrating academic, health, and social services, youth and community development, and community engagement.

Bayview Mission: “We aim to build an equitable and inclusive community of high-achieving global citizens whose values work to build and foster a strong community that believes in the concept of Unity in Diversity.”

A Conversation About Color

Our Founder, Laura Guido-Clark, led two school-wide color seminars where she educated the kids on the power of color and how it can affect the way they feel.

Project Color Corps surveyed the entire school. With input from Bayview Elementary teachers, it was determined that the most viable and impactful activation would be a large outdoor mural installation near the cafeteria where there is plenty of outdoor seating. In order to integrate the new color dynamic into the rest of the school, existing planters were painted and filled.

The Transformation

Using the feedback from the kids and teachers, two palettes were created, CALM CHILL and READY ENERGY.

Project Color Corps returned to the campus for Voting Day and the students chose the winning color palette, CALM CHILL.

The pleasing palette and the rocks’ uniqueness created an impressive transformation for the campus.
