BRIDLEMILE ELEMENTARY
PORTLAND CHAPTER — Portland, OR
Big Picture
Bridlemile Elementary is a K-5 school that values art, music, and media. ProjectColor Corps’ Portland Chapter designed a vibrant mural to bring color to the campus. Inspired by Portland’s public art and crafted with joyful, inclusive color, this mural runs the entire length of the school and is perceived as the heart of the campus.
A Conversation About Color
Everything begins and ends with listening to the children’s desires, hopes, and dreams for a new and colorful environment. In our work, we witness ordinary people create extraordinary change each and every day. We counter hopelessness with empowerment! During our color workshop parents and students united in their love for color. The group was highly interactive and engaging. The resounding message was that they love and wanted color, lots of color!
The Transformation
During the unprecedented times we faced in 2021, the Bridlemile parents called to create something beautiful for their school, to evoke optimism, positivity, and hope in the face of so much stress, division, and upset. What could evoke that more than a multitude of bold stripes, creating hope and optimism? The School community rallied together to transform this outdoor space.
